ScreenKit, an iPhone personalization app that has hit 12 million downloads to date, is ready to embrace the new Lock Screen customization options that come with the release of iOS 16 on September 12. Already a comprehensive solution for theming your iPhone or iPad with wallpapers, custom widgets, and icons, the soon-to-be-updated ScreenKit app will now extend to Lock Screen widgets, with a significant update bringing iPhone owners more than 100 new widget-sized apps. offers options.

Unlike some other planned Lock Screen widget apps that focus on a single Lock Screen widget type — like a contacts or countdown widget, for example — ScreenKit will come out of the gate with a collection of over 100 custom widgets across more than 200 pre-made Lock Screen themes, the company says.

This is in addition to the more than 500 home screen themes and more than 200 home screen widgets that the app already offers in a range of styles and the more than 5,000 custom app icons.

Lock Screen’s widget collection includes about 25 main categories, the company says, each of which can be customized in five to 10 different ways, depending on the widget type.

After iOS 16 arrives, the updated app will introduce the following Lock Screen widgets: a clock, time, date, battery, calendar, music, steps, utilities (volume, brightness, storage, Wi-Fi, CPU, device storage, etc.), weather room temperature, a medication shortcut, bedtime clock, time spent, heart rate, emoticons, bit icons, text, photos, reminders, an event tracker, astrology, moon phase, year progress or countdown, contact launcher, app launcher, stickers, motivational quotes and bible verses.

The company says its Lock Screen widgets will be designed to coordinate with its existing suite of widgets and themes so that users’ final custom designs remain consistent.

We’ve also found it interesting that some Lock Screen widget makers, including ScreenKit, have expanded the informational widgets to include useful widgets in the form of app shortcuts.
