A certain universal look crosses the
faces of many PC gamers when they discover that yes, I play with a
controller. Often a number of known stages follow.
First, denial. (“No way, why would you?”) Then a varying degree
of anger. (“A controller is not as good as a mouse and keyboard!”)
Then negotiate. (“You should try mouse and keyboard for shooters.”)
Then depression. (“I can’t believe you prefer a controller.”)
Sometimes… we reach acceptance. Sometimes never. (See: My
Ongoing Debate With My Colleague Gordon Mah Ung on PCWorld’s Full
Nerd Podcast.) And I hate being harsh on my coworkers, let alone
the countless people I’ve met over the course of my life. have met
and who have followed this scripture, but…
Some games just play better on controller. And that’s okay.
For people who are deeply committed to a mouse and keyboard,
it’s a hard concept to swallow. And usually they mean well! They
are eager to introduce me to the idea that I can aim and react much
faster, more accurately with my input of choice. I see that and
respect the attempt at help.
