Perhaps the most confusing feature of a new iPhone is its price tag.

The iPhone 14 Pro Apple revealed Wednesday could go up to more than $1,000, but it could cost some buyers next to nothing to upgrade, given the many trade-in offers and subsidies from wireless carriers. Of course, these deals often come with a snag, such as multi-year commitments to stick with a carrier (with early termination penalties) or a more expensive data plan that can cost you hundreds of dollars more per year per line.
