Dressed in black, MPs reminisce about the incredible legacy left behind by the late Monarch.

The Prime Minister said: “Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was one of the greatest leaders the world has ever known.

“She was the rock on which modern Britain is built.”

Mrs. Truss praised the “devoted” Monarch and “her words of wisdom”.

“She gave us hope that we would meet again,” the prime minister said.

“She gave her consent to numerous pieces of legislation and has been at the center of our national life for seven decades.”

Ms Truss described how yesterday “changed our lives forever in the blink of an eye”.

She praised the new King Charles: “I was grateful to speak with His Majesty last night and express my condolences, even as he mourns his sense of duty and service is evident.

“The British people, the Commonwealth and all of us in this House will support him as he takes our country into a new era of hope and progress.

“And in that spirit I say God saves the king.”
