Weekly inflation decreases slightly to 42.7 pc. from record high – Business

Inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) was 42.7 percent year-over-year (YoY) for the week ending Sept. 8, data shared by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday showed. .

Inflation in the previous week was measured at 45.5 pc. year-on-year – an all-time high – as vegetable prices rose due to the damage caused by the floods.

The most recent data showed that inflation fell 0.58 percent week-over-week as a result of a drop in food prices, particularly onions and tomatoes.

The SPI tracks the prices of 51 essential items based on a survey of 50 markets in 17 cities across the country.

In the week under review, the prices of 26 items rose, nine fell and 16 remained stable.
