In April of this year, traces of an integrated VPN (Virtual Private Network) called “Secure Network” were noticed in Microsoft Edge. The service is powered by Cloudflare. A month later, the Redmond company made its official announcement and added some more details about the new feature.
Fast forward to today, Secure Network settings are now live in the latest Edge Canary build. They are available in the ‘Privacy, Search & Services’ menu in Settings.
As you can see in the image above, there are three options available for Edge Secure Network. The first one on the left lets you choose which websites you want to use the VPN on. This option also allows users to add exclusions (image below) to sites they never want VPN on.
The recommended option is “Optimized” which automatically turns on VPN when using public Wi-Fi. Finally, on all websites there is the option to use Secure Network. The 1GB free VPN data cap per month is present in all options.
